We assemble at the entrance of The Eastside Plaza at the traffic lights.
Our goal is to raise awareness of the Pet Store/Internet Breeder, Puppy Mill Connection. Our country euthanizes, (even more heartbreaking, some states still painfully gas animals), approximately 5-7 million animals a year at a cost to taxpayers of more than a billion dollars. So, Why are we adding to the overpopulation problem?
Education is key. When people stop buying puppies in pet stores or thru online internet ads, the puppy mills will go out of business and the misery will end. Please join us in this fight.
Together we can make a difference for dogs suffering in puppy mills being used as breeding machines for profit sake and shelter dogs longing for loving homes! We need YOUR HELP!
We supply all the protest signage, literature, and brochures to hand out but feel free to get creative and bring your own....
*** Do not patronize stores that sell puppies and kittens; not for an animal, not even for supplies. Even if it is a little more inconvenient or expensive, please choose to shop at stores that support animal rescue. Request that your friends and family do the same.
*** If you are considering a new pet, do not purchase from a store. Instead, help save a life and adopt from a shelter or rescue. Search through the thousands of homeless animals posted on Petfinder.com to find one near you.
ORGANIZE YOUR OWN PEACEFUL PROTESTS
A good way to enlighten the public about the harsh realities of puppy mills and the merits of adoption from shelters and rescues is to organize a protest at a store that sells dogs. The following are ways to make your demonstration successful.
Step1
Choose a store that sells puppies as the location for your demonstration. It should have good visibility from the street and parking available nearby.
Step2
Call your local police department to obtain a permit if necessaray. The cities we protest in require a permit if we have 25 or more people. You will have to provide the basic details, such as date, time and location. Different cities have different regulations—but you have the right to assemble—and it’s free.
Step3
Contact local animal welfare and rescue organizations to get their input. They can also provide you with email lists of people to notify.
Step4
Email an action alert to animal organizations and individuals that support animal causes. Ask people to make signs, bring poop scoops/baggies for clean up, their dogs.
Step5
Place ads in local newspapers, Craigslist and other websites that are local to your area. Put fliers up at dog parks, public parks, libraries, school bulletin boards, markets and veterinarians’ offices.
Step6
Alert the local news outlets including TV stations, radio stations and newspapers.
Step7
Bring literature such as pamphlets to pass out in order to educate people about puppy mills. Be prepared to share your knowledge with those who pass by and express curiosity or interest.
Step8
We would be happy to supply you with signs and information about puppy mills. You can also contact a volunteer coordinator at Last Chance for Animals (
